I’m Dr Chris Fielding and I am an ageing runner (53 and quite a bit).
I am also a headteacher and social scientist with an interest in how we acquire knowledge and make sense of the world. You can find out more at cjfielding.com.
About eleven years ago, I began to blog under the name ‘Barefoot Beginner’. I was a completely broken runner. The decades of mileage had taken their toll and I was at the end of the road.
I ditched my shoes and ran barefoot everyday for a year. It rebuilt my running style from the ground up. I learnt as much as possible from those who knew more than I did.
I met some amazing people, my legs grew strong and I put the shoes back on. I now run pretty much injury free.
But…I am getting older.
I have every intention of running through my 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond. I want to give myself the best chance of doing that and help others do the same.
I am an enthusiast fuelled by the restless itch of curiosity. I want to learn as much as I can from those with expertise and experience. I need your help.
I want Ageing Runner to be a community where we can share our experiences of both running and getting older.
A place to celebrate the joy and share the challenges.
We are not in hurry…we run, we chat, we smile.
